Schilling Skane Baltic Porter

Schilling Beer Company

Review by John Staradumsky • August 19th, 2026

I found a can of Schilling Skane Baltic Porter in my beer stash! Lucky me! I bought it from Half Time on May 23rd and received it a few days later, and I am only now drinking it in August. If you can't age a Baltic Porter a few months, though, what can you age? It should smooth out a little as time goes by, but I think five months roughly from the packaging date is not all that long. This one likely could go years.

I just love bottom fermented Baltic porters like this one, which should not be confused with American top-fermented imperial porters. They are two different animals indeed. Schilling does not really have listings for their beers on their websites, but I found a Facebook post from them dated September 12th, 2024 which you can find in the "Schilling says" section.

Schilling Skane Baltic Porter has an alcohol content of 7.4% by volume and my can is stamped 032726 on the bottom.

About Schilling Brewing Company

Schilling Beer Co. is a modern European-inspired small-batch brewery centered on family, community, and excellence. Founded in 2013 by the Cozzens family and their long-time friend, John Lenzini - Michigan natives who moved to the North Country over 15 years ago - the Schilling name honors the Cozzens' beloved late grandfather, Dr. R.J. Schilling. It also reflects the continental European experiences and inspirations foundational to the design of our beers and brewery.

Tasting Notes

Schilling Skane Baltic Porter pours to a black but not opaque color with a thick creamy tan head and a nose of dark roasted malt with a hint of char. Taking a sip, the beer is light to medium in body, and while I might like just a tad more, it is not thin by any reckoning. Rich and dark roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate, a hint of char as in the nose, a light black cherry note, but no licorice as I like in these beers. A very dry roasty finish displays alcohol warmth and herbal bitter hops.

Value & Verdict

I paid $8.49 for my pint can from Half Time. This is the only pricing information that I have.

Very tasty indeed, I like to add a Schilling beer every time I shop at Half Time, and on this particular occasion, I bought two. My records show I bought a can of Shcilling Hanse with the Skane, and if you will excuse me, I must be off to find it. I will be back to tell you about it soon.

Buy It Again? Yes, I would.
