Schoolhouse Lil Punk Nutella Pumpkin Pie Brown Ale

Review Date 11/9/2019   By John Staradumsky

Well, here’s a beer from yet another new Georgia brewery: Schoolhouse Lil Punk Brown Ale. Breweries are popping up everywhere in Georgia these days (I passed two right off the highway on the way to Helen a few weeks ago) and I have to admit I’m having a hard time keeping up. Schoolhouse, though, is a little different than the rest of the pack. I’ll let them explain why.

Here at Schoolhouse, we're doing things a little different. No flagships, no core beers. We offer 20 rotating draft beers, meaning something new every time you come in! If you love our beer and can't live without it, brew it yourself! Ask us for any of the recipes, we'll hand it over. We are a completely open sourced brewery, full transparency. We also have the ingredients and equipment to help you brew a batch! The perks of not only having a brewery but an in house Homebrew shop!

This is  interesting, my friends. I’m not so sure how I feel about the “no core beers” bit, and here’s why. I really enjoyed the mug of Schoolhouse Lil Punk Brown Ale I had at Taco Mac. But will I ever have it again? Is this a one and done for the brewery, and now they’re off to something else? One hopes that their commitment to “something new every time you come in” doesn’t mean that all they ever do is new beers.

If it does, though, there’s no denying that we as fickle beer geeks did this to ourselves. This is what we asked for, something new all the time, never the same beer twice. I must admit I like drinking the same beer again. What’s the point of ticking off all of these different brews if not to find one you enjoy to revisit in the future, just like an old friend?

That said, here’s what they say about Lil Punk:

Nutella Pumpkin Pie Brown Ale - we took two things all of our Becky's with the good hair love and mashed them together for the fall love. Pumpkin Pie spiced beer and Nutella. A rich and creamy American brown ale for all the ugg wearing lovers of the Fall.

Schoolhouse Lil Punk Brown Ale

My mug of Schoolhouse Lil Punk Brown Ale arrived a very dark brown in color with a small cap of foam and hot ball cinnamon candy exploding in the nose. This is a pumpkin pie brown ale brewed with Nutella. I don’t get the Nutella, but what I do get is damned good! As I sip. more of the cinnamon emerges, then dark fruity mincemeat pie, dark raisin, nutmeg, allspice, gingerbread, pumpkin, dry spicy finish.

This is amazing! Amongst the best $7.50 I’ve spent all year. Don’t make this a one and done, Schoolhouse! You surely educated me on the finer points of a pumpkin brown ale tonight. I’d love to study with you again.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
