Sierra Nevada has a new beer? BFD. Yes, that’s it. BFD. Wait what? You think I’m saying….no, no! The name of the beer is BFD-Beer For Drinking! Sierra Nevada BFD Beer For Drinking is an ale meant to be just that-smooth, easy drinking, and as the brewery calls it “casually crushable”. It caught my eye at Sherlock’s in Kennesaw, standing out as it did in the tall, slim single 19.2 ounce aluminum cans. Now that’s marketing!
Still and all, one assumes that a beer like this is beer for drinking in a session, so you could actually drink more than one. I popped mine on a warm spring afternoon, and certainly could have enjoyed another one. As far as I know, however, the beer is not offered in multiple-can packages.
Sierra Nevada says:
There are days when you want a beer—just a beer—that hits all the right spots. Well, this is it. No snifters required, no special occasions—just an unfussy, uncomplicated, hoppy blonde ale brewed to fit in no matter where it goes. This isn’t beer for collecting, this is beer for drinking.
Ingredients from the website:
Yeast Ale yeast
Bittering Hops Simcoe
Finishing Hops Polaris, Comet
Malts Two-row Pale, Acidulated, Munich, Pilsner
Sierra Nevada BFD Beer For Drinking has an alcohol content of 4.8% by volume with 33 IBUs. I paid $1.78 for the 19.2 ounce can at Sherlock’s. That’s not a bad price at all, working out to about $6.67 for a six-pack equaling 72 ounces.
Sierra Nevada BFD Beer For Drinking pours to a pale yellow color with a thick fluffy and short lived head and a soft tropical fruity nose. Taking a sip, the beer has a very soft maltiness indeed with tropical and stone fruits (I get apricots, mango and pineapple). It finishes quite bitter, adding to the crushable character. Perfect on a warm spring afternoon, it is smooth enough to drink a couple of with enough flavor to make it desirable to do so.
I would buy it again for sure, especially at the bargain price.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
