Here’s a beer you may never see, dear reader, so apologies in advance if I tempt your taste buds with tales of this sudsy treat available only to a select few. For starters, the beer is only available in Georgia, so you have to live here or at least be passing through here to try it. Beer trades? Not gonna happen, folks: this one is draft only. If you do find it on tap, it will be at a Taco Mac, the only place that this one will be offered.

The beer in question is Sweetwater Bobblehead Bob’s Stout, a dry stout brewed for both the 35^th anniversary of the Taco Mac chain of restaurants and the birthday of Taco Mac executive Bob Campbell. It showed up on tap at my local Canton Taco Mac, so I made a beeline there to try it before it was gone.

Oh but wait...this isn't a review of Sweetwater Bobblehead Bob Stout after all, is it? Not precisely, no. Instead, these are my thoughts on a special release of this beer, one aged in Woodford Reserve Bourbon barrels. Hence, Sweetwater Bobblehead Bob Stout Aged in Woodford Reserve Barrels.

This beer was a special release at all Georgia Taco Mac locations. October 2014 saw Sweetwater as Taco Mac's featured beer of the month, and on the 16th for just a measly $7 you could get a full mug pour of this wonderfully complex beer plus a neat Sweetwater Hop Hash goblet. Here's how Taco Mac described this rare and unique find:

Bourbon Barrel Aged Bobblehead Bob - (Special Release to be tapped 10-16) We have taken our exclusively made dry Irish stout and aged it in Woodford Reserve Barrels, that make this one worth a taste!

And here's what I thought:

My mug of Sweetwater Bobblehead Bob Stout Aged in Woodford Reserve Barrels arrived a dark as night black color with a  Whoa! Big raisin and booze in the nose, chocolate and roasted barley up front, then lots and lots of big boozy whiskey notes. Dark fruit, toasted oak, vanilla, very boozy in the finish. They're all here!

I enjoyed the heck out of this one, even if they did bring me the 16 ounce glass instead of 20 (they fixed that, though). I really hate when a barrel aged beer gains nothing from the barrel aging. This one did, though, in spades. I hope they bring it back again! It's simply amazing.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
