Remember arcades? I sure do. They were so much fan growing up as a kid, and then when the first home video arcades were introduced? Even better. Tallgrass Brewing Company of Manhattan, Kansas salutes those days with its 8-Bit Pale Ale, a delicious drinkable and hoppy pale.
From the website:
8-Bit Pale Ale pays homage to the classic, yet complex video game systems that weren’t perfect but still sparked our imaginations. Notes of fruit and pine resin dominate the aroma with bright hops and vibrant tropical fruit flavors shining through in this medium-bodied American pale ale.
Ingredients, also from the website:
Hops: Columbus, Cascade, Centennial, Mosaic
Malts: 2Row Pale, C20, Carapils
Tallgrass 8-Bit Pale Ale has an alcohol content of 5.2% by volume with 46 IBUs. It is not sold in Georgia but I picked up a 4-pack of 16-ounce cans in Nashville not so long ago for $6.99. It comes in 12-ounce cans as well. Mine has a best by date of 2/11/16 stamped on the bottom. Tallgrass also makes a 16-Bit IPA.
Tallgrass 8-Bit Pale Ale pours to a pale orange amber color with a thick foamy head and a light fruity nose. Taking a sip, the beer has a solid caramel malt body appropriate to style supporting a soft tropical fruitiness and gentle resiny hop character. The hops are slightly grassy in the finish and balance the beer perfectly.
Easy drinking, delicious pale ale. That’s 8-Bit. No playing games here folks. Well, unless you want to.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
