I’ve got a Big Woody! Or I did anyway, until I drank it. Yes indeed, The Brew Kettle Big Woody is what I’m talking about, from Strongsville, Ohio’s Brew Kettle and Smokehouse. If you ask them nicely, they will tell you they started out as a brew on premise. I’m not sure if they still do that but if they do, trust me, just let them make the beer for you. They do such a great job of it.
Big Woody is an example of what I’m talking about; I have yet to have a bad beer from these guys yet. The Brew Kettle describes Big Woody, a year-round offering, as such on the label:
A light and refreshing malty lager brewed in the Munich style and tradition.
The Brew Kettle Big Woody has an alcohol content of 5% by volume with 18 IBUs. This beer is not sold in Georgia but I got a bottle from my good buddy Dave Coulter. Thanks Dave!
The Brew Kettle Big Woody pours to a pale golden color with a thin head of foam and a soft fresh malt nose. Taking a sip, the beer has a light crisp biscuity maltiness up front followed by, well, more crisp biscuity maltiness punctuated with a gently grassy, light and balancing bitterness. All of this is what I want in a Helles, and this is a good one.
Smooth, malty, very drinkable and unpretentious with an appropriate hop presence. The Brew Kettle Big Woody is a winner in my book.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
