Congratulations Three Taverns brewery of Decatur, Georgia! You’re two years old. That’s right, Three Taverns opened its doors in July of 2013, and to commemorate that event they release a special beer in celebration called Anniversarium. Thus I give you Three Taverns Anniversarium II, a Belgian-style tripel available on draft only and for a limited time.
Those of you that have read any of my musings on Three Taverns know how very much I have been impressed with this brewery and their beers. Anniversarium II is no exception and is a wonderful example of its style. I got a growler fill at Stout’s Growlers in Canton, Georgia to bring home and enjoy.
Three Taverns says of this beer:
To commemorate our brewery's 2nd anniversary celebration, Anniversarium II is brewed in the tradition of the great Belgian monastic tripels, but with our own unique interpretation. We used rye in the mash for an added spiciness to the predominately sweet malt flavors and ester notes characteristic of this classic Belgian-style ale.
Three Taverns Anniversarium II has an alcohol content of 8.5% by volume with 25 IBUs. I paid $10 for my growler fill at Stout’s.
Three Taverns Anniversarium Belgian-style Triple pours to a pale golden color with a minimal head formation and a faint malty nose that is surprisingly tame for the style. Taking a sip the beer is remarkably light up front with a dry toasted maltiness, rich rock candy notes, cotton candy, fruity pineapple, coriander, light yeasty funk and coconut all leading into a dry warm alcohol finish.
I found this beer to be quite light bodied and drinkable for the style, but with a decided spiciness that made it a welcome libation on a warm Georgia summer evening. Congratulations to Three Taverns on another fine brew, and here’s looking forward to what they cook up next year for Anniversarium III.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
