The Atlantic Coast
Brewing Company of Boston, Massachusetts specializes in English style ales,
and does a fantastic job brewing them. Their beers are highly regarded in
New England, and sometimes are hard to find even here. They've just
introduced a Fall seasonal to their lineup, in limited release. Tremont
Festival Ale is available from September until November from the brewery.
More expensive than most at $7.49 a six pack, but well worth it in my
opinion.
Tremont Festival Ale is deep mahogany in color with good head formation and
retention and a big fruity nose. The palate is rich and very cake-malty with
a touch of chocolate and raisin. There's a spruce-like, wonderfully bitter
hop finish that lingers on the tongue long after the sip is finished.
Fuggles, Chinook, Horizons, and Targets are used. The beer hints at Ringwood
yeasty notes but they're overpowered by the hops. Just an absolutely
wonderful brew that needs to be experienced to be believed.
Oddly enough, though a fall seasonal this rich brew has me thinking
Christmas and I think it would be great with plum pudding. It's drinkable
and flavorful, but slightly underweight in alcohol at 4% by volume. That
being the case, I think I'll have another.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
