Trumer Pils

So, I bought a can of Trumer Pils. Initially, I thought this was a German import, both from the name and from the fancy white and silver label. It looked imported to me, but when I got the can delivered from Half Time, I noticed the words “Berkeley California” embossed on the label. But wait! The plot thickens. I read the back label of the can:

Trumer Pils is hand-crafted at our independent craft brewery in Berkely, California using the original recipe perfected at our 400-year old sister brewery in Salzburg, Austria. Brewing in Berkely allows beer drinkers in America to enjoy Trumer the way it was meant to be. Fresh!

With its spicy noble hop aroma, balanced profile, brisk carbonation and crisp, refreshing finish, Trumer Pils is truly best-in-class! Trumer Pils is the most awarded pilsner in the world, having won 18 gold medals in the most prestigious international beer competitions.

Lo and behold! It is a German beer! An Austrian beer to be sure, but Austrians are Germanic after all. It is also a very fine pilsner beer indeed.

Trumer Pils has an alcohol content of 4.9% by volume and I paid $2.99 for my can from Half Time. Total Wine sells it for $8.99 a six-pack in cans or bottles in Henderson, NV. I would be all over it at that price. My can is stamped BB 11/18/23.

Trumer Pils pours to a pale straw color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of fresh malt and earthy hops. Taking a sip, the beer is crisp biscuity malty up front. It’s infused with earthy hops and they impart a delicious dry grassy bitterness in the well balanced finish. This is a delightful pilsner, and I could easily see myself quaffing liters of it. A little more malt and a little more hops and it might rival my beloved Prima Pils, but as it is, it is tasty indeed.

Trumer Pils, the import that’s not an import. It gets 4.5 out of 5 from me, for being such a delightful pilsner and for building a brewery here in the USA to give us fresh beer.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
