Unibroue has a habit of producing more than one beer in a given style, yet keeping each somewhat distinctive from the other. Trois Pistoles is a good example, I think of it as roughly a dubbel, much as I think of La Maudite from Unibroue.
Trois Pistoles is a rich deep brown in color with a big, beautiful foamy
head. The beer has a very yeasty, slightly musty nose , and the first sip
screams "Belgium" at you, combining a traditional Belgian horse-blanket type
yeastiness with with a rich, slightly sweet malt character, the latter of
which carries forth well into the finish and combines with spicy hints of
cinnamon and nutmeg. At 9% alcohol by volume, this beer combines the
maltiness of a dubbel with the alcohol warmth of a Tripel. Excellent!
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
