Double Dutch Double Cross West Coast India Pale Ale

Review Date 12/29/2025 By John Staradumsky
Here’s a new brewery for me: Urban Family of Seattle, Washington. To be sure, Urban Family is not a new concern, having opened their doors in the Ballard District in 2013. That’s the area where Redhook got their start, and for which they named their first IPA, Ballard’s Best Bitter.
I have been to Seattle a few times, though not since the late aughts, so before Urban Family’s time. They do not distribute to Georgia, but I have been able to score a few of their beers from Half Time Beverage of New York. The first I tried was Double Dutch Double Cross West Coast India Pale Ale.
Double Dutch is a style of jumping rope with two ropes being swung in opposite directions. On the label, you can see the jumper being double crossed by a pair of mean looking hombres. I must say the label makes great desktop wallpaper for your computer.
Urban Family does not offer information on their beers on their website, but the label tells me that it has an alcohol content of 6.3% by volume and that it is brewed with Bravo, Strata and Vet Blend 24 hops. I paid $4.99 for my pint can from Half Time. Downtown Spirits in Seattle has it listed for $14.49 the 4-pack, though they also describe it as currently out of stock. It should be noted I drank my can and took notes in July of 2025, and am only now fleshing this out to a full review.
Urban Family Double Dutch Double Cross West Coast India Pale Ale pours to a pale orange color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of herbal citrusy hop aroma. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body, and I might like more in an IPA, but only a little more. It’s not short on hops, though, and they quickly explode everywhere. They’re not tropical, which does not bother me in the least, but they are citrusy with grapefruit, and very herbal. I get fresh cut grass, oregano, and mint and then a very bitter finish at the last.
I picked a great beer for my welcome to the family. Here’s looking forward to future visits with this and other fine Urban Family brews.
Glad I tried it?

Would I rebuy it??
