First beer of vacation! That’s what Valley River Brewery Konehete Belgian Golden Ale was. We were taking a vacation in the Carolinas, visiting both Harrah’s casinos and then off to Charleston for a few days there. First stop was Harrah’s in Murphy, North Carolina, and of course that meant a stop (my second visit) at Valley River Brewery. I wanted to get a growler fill to take back to the hotel (I did: Valley River Hanging Dog Double IPA).
While I waited, though, I got a couple of half pints at the bar. I like that you can do that here, and that they are exactly half the price of a pint. The first beer I enjoyed on this trip was, again, The Konehete Golden Ale. The beer takes its name from the Cherokee word for “long valley place”.
Valley River Brewery Konehete Belgian Golden Ale has an alcohol content of 7.7% by volume. I paid $2.25 for a half pint-what a deal! You could fill a 64-ounce growler for $14.95.
My glass of Valley River Brewery Konehete Belgian Golden Ale arrived bright orange amber in color with a light cap of foam and spicy clove and green peppercorns in the nose. Taking a ip, the beer has a smooth malty palate, is crackery and spicy, with a medium body and full flavor. It finishes dry and spicy.
A very tasty Belgian style blonde ale with delightful yeast-thrown spicy flavors. I have never had a bad beer at Valley River Brewery, and as I type, we’re getting ready for another trip to Murphy in two days. I just can’t wait to stop by Valley River Brewery again….
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
