Von Trapp Vienna

Review Date 10/22/2025 By John Staradumsky

I have been drinking beers from the Von Trapp Brewery of Stowe, Vermont for quite some time now. That’s sometimes a challenge, because they aren’t sold here in Georgia. Luckily, I can get them shipped here from New York’s Half Time Beverage. That’s exactly what I did in 2022 with Von Trapp Vienna Lager. I drank my first can in July of 2022, took tasting notes, but never fleshed them out to a review here on Guruofbrew.com.

Fast forward to October 19th of 2025. I’m in Nashville, Tennessee to watch the Patriots beat the Tennessee Titans. After the game, a few miles of walking from the stadium got us to Five Points Pizza. My son is a pizza connoisseur and wanted to eat here, and that turned out to be a very good decision, because as you may have guessed by now, they had Von Trapp Vienna Lager on tap.

This is the first time I have enjoyed a draft Von Trapp, and it seemed apropos as well to be drinking a New England beer in Nashville after a great Pats win. Von Trapp says:

Named for the city where the signature style was born, this Austrian-style amber lager has malt notes of bread crust, toffee, and toast combined with a grassy and floral hop bouquet, making for a balanced and full-flavored drinking experience.

Von Trapp Vienna Lager has an alcohol content of 5.2% by volume with 33 IBUs. I paid $7.50 for my pint at Five Points, where it went great with an enormous slice of veggie pizza. Total Wine sells it for $12.49 a six-pack in Knoxville, Tennessee. The can I took notes on in 2022 was stamped BEST BY 07/16/2022, and I drank it on 7/25. About a week past what Von Trapp recommended, and it tasted wonderful all the same. Not much different than the fresh draft I enjoyed at Five Points.

Von Trapp Vienna Lager pours to a bright golden orange color with a thick creamy head of fluffy white foam and a nose of bready, nutty malt. Taking a sip, there is a sold malt backbone here, and I love that. The beer is bursting with fresh biscuity malt, it’s toasty nutty, too, with just a hint of caramel. A balancing hop bitterness makes you want to immediately take another sip.

A great example of the style, and a beer I’m glad I found on tap. It’s one I would love to drink again. I’m sure I will, too.

 Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
