A few times or so a year, the wife and I love to head to Murphy, North Carolina to hit the casino (and drink some beer), play the slots (and drink some beer), and head downtown to the brewpubs-and drink some beer. Actually, I do the beer drinking since the wife doesn't drink, in all truth. One other thing I always do here, too, though, is pick up some beer at the local Ingles to bring back home.
On my last visit, one of the beers I brought back was a single of Wicked Weed Perni Haze Hazy IPA. I had never had this beer before and was interested to try it, as Wicked Weed very rarely disappoints. Wicked Weed Perni Haze Hazy IPA has an alcohol content of 6% by volume. My can is stamped DRINK BY 041626, and as fate would have it I drank it on April 16th, 2026. It is also stamped PKG on 011626.
About Wicked Weed Brewing Company
Wicked Weed was imagined, created, and brought to life by the Dickinsons and the Guthys; two families that have been lifelong friends, each bringing a unique skill to the collective ownership team.
Upon opening their original brewpub location in 2012, Wicked Weed was known for pushing the envelope in craft by offering 25 unique draft beers including West Coast style IPAs, barrel-aged sour ales, and more.
Tasting Notes
Wicked Weed Perni Haze Hazy IPA pours to a hazy orange amber color with a thick fluffy white head and a citrusy, dank vegetal nose. Taking a sip, the beer is light to medium in body. It's juicy with orange and grapefruit and dank with vegetal spinach. The beer finishes pleasantly bitter and makes me want another sip.
Value & Verdict
I paid $2 for a 12-ounce can in a mix-a-six pack. Total Wine sells it here in Georgia for $11.99 a six-pack, and my local Taco Mac currently has it on tap for $10.01 for a 23-ounce draft, though as a Chancellor in their Brewniversity program I would pay $7.51. I just love the interplay here between juicy citrus and dank vegetal notes. A worthy companion to the flagship Pernicious IPA.
