Wild Leap Oktoberfest

Review Date 10/5/2023  By John Staradumsky

October is here! That means its time for Oktoberfest to wrap up in Germany. Many people think that Oktoberfest begins in October, but that is not true. It usually begins in mid-September (for 2023, September 16th), and ends in early October (for 2023, October 3rd). That does not, however, mean we suddenly stop enjoying the many wonderful Oktoberfest beers made by breweries all over the world.

Recently, I tried a local Oktoberfest beer I had never had before: Wild Leap Oktoberfest from the Wile Leap brewery of La Grange, Georgia. One of the nice things about these beers is that they are easy to name. You just plug your brewery name in for not “Oktoberfest” and boom! You’re done.

Wild Leap says:

A traditional Oktoberfest-style lager featuring four of our favorite German malts & hopped with Herkules and Perle hops.

You don’t need lederhosen or a dirndl to enjoy a taste of Bavaria, but our Oktoberfest lager does taste great in a beer garden.

Wild Leap Oktoberfest has an alcohol content of 6.3% by volume (just a tad above the norm for the style) with 20 IBUs. I bought a single at Total Wine where it was running $13.99 a six-pack, and because it was running $13.99 a six-pack. That’s a few bucks more than I think it should be; my favorite Georgia Oktoberfest, and one of the best American Oktoberfests I have ever tasted, Tucker Tucktoberfest, runs $11.99 a six-pack. Anyway, my can of Wild Leap Oktoberfest was stamped PKG 08/14/2023.

Wild Leap Oktoberfest pours to a bright orange color with a short-lived fizzy head and a nose of caramel and toasted nuts. Taking a sip, the beer has a medium body appropriate to the style. There is caramel and toasted nuts in good measure. I get a little Munich malty melanoidins here, but more of the caramel. Finishes balanced with a gentle bitterness. A tasty Oktoberfest, does not compare to the German examples, but then who does? 4 stars, less a half star for the high pricing.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
