Welcome, Wiley Roots brewing of Greeley, Colorado, to Bruguru.com! Here’s my first review of your beer, a can of Broadband Brut IPA. This is a small Colorado brewer and they do not distribute to Georgia, but I got a can from my buddy Dale Roberts. This is my first ever “Brut IPA” as well, yet another variation on the IPA style.
Brut IPAs are intended to have a dry finish, like a champagne, and some are fermented with champagne yeast. They also employ an enzyme sometimes used in high alcohol brews to diminish residual, unfermented sugars and leave the beer dry.
Wiley Roots does not have any information about Broadband Brut IPA on their website, but the can label cites Citra and Simcoe hops and an alcohol content of 7.2% by volume.
Wiley Roots Broad Band Brut IPA pours to a hazy yellow orange color with a thick fluffy head of foam and a juicy citrus orange and tropical fruit nose. Taking a sip, the beer explodes with citrusy orange and grapefruit in the palate. There’s a hint of pineapple as well, but mostly the citrus flavors here. There’s a dry, tangy champagne-like character as well and the beer finishes balanced as such, very reminiscent of a mimosa for me.
Very tasty, I like this emerging substyle, and I’m looking forward to trying more as the years progress.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
