Sweetwater 420 Citrus Haze

Review Date 8/8/2024 By John Staradumsky

I bought a can of Sweetwater 420 Citrus Haze at Total Wine not so long ago, and I’m here to tell you about it today. Problem is, there’s not a lot of background information on the beer. It’s not listed on the brewery website, you see. It’s a variation on the classic Sweetwater 420 Extra Pale Ale, this much I do know. I mean, the 420 is right there in the name.

There is no background information on the can, or even on Untappd. So, all I can tell you is that Sweetwater 420 Citrus Haze has an alcohol content of 5,4% by volume (that much is on the can label), and it is described on that label as a hazy pale ale. I forget what I paid for my single, but Total Wine lists it for $9.99 a six-pack in their Alpharetta store, which is the one where I bought my single. It is stamped 10/07/24 ATL 1818 on the bottom, so it was brewed and packaged in Atlanta.

As I drank the beer on August 4th of 2024, the freshness dating is clearly a best by date, not a packaging date. Breweries should be clear on this I strongly believe. You might buy it on October 8th thinking wow, this beer was packaged yesterday, when that is clearly not the case. Would it taste much better on October 8th than it would on October 7th? Nope. But at least you would know.

Sweetwater 420 Citrus Haze pours to a hazy orange color with a medium head of spritzy foam and a vibrant juicy citrusy nose. Taking a sip the beer is light to medium in body, appropriate to a pale ale. It’s bright and citrusy with orange and tangerine and finishes balanced with citrus rind.

This was refreshing on a hot summer evening. I would buy it and drink it again, especially at the bargain basement price.

 Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
