Yazoo Hopry Hazy IPA

Review Date 10/26/2025 By John Staradumsky
Sometimes, reality is stranger than fiction. It was for me anyway when I was recently in Nashville, Tennessee for the Patriots-Titans game. After the Patriots Glorious Victory, my son wanted pizza and I wanted beer. The only beer I had at the game was a Modelo Especial, and now I wanted craft beer, and Five Points Pizza did not disappoint. I enjoyed a Von Trapp Vienna there, but as fate would have it, there was a Boston-themed pub right next door named Boston Commons. Of course we went in. Of course we did.
The first thing I ordered was a Guinness. A good Boston pub will always pour a great pint of Guinness (really any good pub in New England will, I’ve enjoyed it in Portland, Maine and Providence, Rhode Island many times, too). The Guinness here was expertly poured, fresh and delicious. They offer a variation called a Black and Sam, a blend of Guinness and Samuel Adams Boston Lager. My son ordered one of these, and I had a few sips. Very tasty indeed.
My son ordered the Boston Cream Pie here, a house specialty, but they were sold out, as they were of the New England Clam Chowder. The place was packed with Patriots fans, after all. I did want a local beer, and Yazoo Hopry Hazy IPA did not disappoint. Yazoo is one of my favorite Tennessee breweries, and I have been drinking their beer for almost 20 years now. This is a New England-style IPA version of their classic Hopry IPA. Because you have to have a New England style IPA in a New England themed sports bar. Yes you do.
Yazoo says:
This soft, juicy IPA is brewed with pale malt, flaked wheat, oats and barley along with Citra, Galaxy, Amarillo and Bravo hops. Dry-hopping twice during active fermentation transforms the essential hop characteristics into a creamy, juicy mouthfeel with big hop flavor, but minimal bitterness.
Yazoo Hopry Hazy IPA has an alcohol content of 6.8% by volume with 38 IBUs. I paid $10 for a 22-ounce glass at Boston Commons. Total Wine sells it for $10.99 a six-pack of cans in Brentwood, Tennessee. Not a bad price at all.
My towering glass of Yazoo Hopry Hazy IPA arrived a hazy orange yellow color with a tight white cap of foam and a nose of pineapple and mango fruits. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body and again pops with the tropical fruit notes the nose promised. There’s a little citrus there, too, tangerine to my taste, and the beer finishes with a balancing finish.
I very much enjoyed my glass of Yazoo Hopry Hazy IPA and would love to enjoy it again. The Titans get a new stadium in 2027, and I hope to see the Patriots play there soon. Maybe I’ll find this beer on tap again then.
Glad I tried it?

Would I rebuy it??
